Wine for Celebration
Jabulani is a Zulu word meaning happiness or rejoicing and so this is the place of happiness. We started planting vines in the spring of 2007 and our first harvest was in 2010. Jabulani Winery at The Richmond Estate opened its doors in 2011. It was a small venue at that time – a tasting patio with five barrels as tables.
The Richmond Estate
The Estate now boasts eight different varieties of cold climate vines numbering just over 11,000 on 11 acres of the farm. We have expanded the winery to include an Estate Barn building and it is there that we not only make our award-winning wines, but we offer a full retail store and events throughout the year. To date, we have fifteen international awards and five Canadian championship awards, including a Double Gold for our Marquette Chete 2015. Our grapes are harvested from our Estate and our Estate in Niagara, Calamus Estate Winery. We also host winery events such as Our Spanish Paella nights, Ladies Rose all Day, Country Barn Steak nights, and weddings. The winery can accommodate events of up to 140 people indoors as well as outside at our tasting patios
Today the winery is operated by the Van Helsdingen Family. A 3 generational family in the hospitality business for over 50 years. Our passion is Hospitality.
Micheal Van Helsdingen
Meet Michael, our dedicated Winery Retail Manager at Jabulani Estate, nestled in the picturesque Ottawa region. With years of experience under his belt at our Niagara winery Calamus Estates, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. His journey in the world of wine took him across the globe to Italy, where he honed his skills at Chiorri Vineyards in 2023, mastering both production methods and retail store management.
Before his international stint, Michael laid the groundwork for his passion for wine during his time as an Honors business student at Brock University. There, he immersed himself in an international wine course, further fueling his love for the craft.
What truly sets Michael apart is his unwavering commitment to crafting unforgettable winery experiences for our guests. Whether it’s orchestrating wine tastings, leading tours through our vineyards, or overseeing operations at our beloved pizza pavilion, Michael’s dedication shines through. With his keen eye for detail and boundless enthusiasm, he ensures that every visitor leaves with memories to cherish.
